Before telling us about Jesus’ death, Mark resets the stage: it’s Rome-occupied Jerusalem, political tensions are high; the crowds want Jesus to deliver them, but they don’t understand the kind of deliverance He came to bring; the religious leaders want Jesus dead, and the disciples still have choices to make.
In this talk, we’re reminded that our responses to Jesus will direct the stories we live.
